I love the smell of old books. It may seem strange to some people, but I find it intriguing to consider how many people have picked up the books in my favourite used book store. I love to spend time perusing the aisles, digging deep into the back of the dustiest corners of the place. This painting is an homage to the little store where so many of my paper treasures have been found.

The books in this piece were created from an old reference book about yachts. I'm not a sailor - I've never been on a large ship, truthfully. But the illustrations in this book fascinate me. I imagine that the books I've painted are filled with stories of sea creatures, beautiful sunrises and sunsets, and triumphs despite all odds on the seas.
